“I first went to Boyd over 10 years ago, when he convinced me that acupuncture would help relieve my symptoms from seasonal allergies. I have been symptom free since that time, and have continued to see Boyd for treatment of a number of different conditions. Boyd is extremely knowledgeable and professional--always willing to discuss with me any problems I'm having and possible outcomes from acupuncture. I highly recomment Boyd at Piedmont Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.”
Tui Na (推拿)
Tui Na (推拿) - literally "Push Grasp"- is traditional Chinese medical massage and bodywork.
Tui Na is an integral part of traditional Chinese medicine. It is essentially medical massage & bodywork that uses hands-on body treatment in an attempt to get the Qi (energy) moving in the acupuncture channels, muscles, joints, and nerves to remove blockages that prevent the free flow of Qi and Blood. Removing these blockages restores the balance of Qi in the body, leading to decreased pain, improved circulation, and generally improved health, vitality, and balance.
We use traditional techniques - many of which originate in Martial Arts systems - to brush, knead, roll, hold, press, pluck and rub the areas between each of the joints, through larger areas of soft tissues (muscles/ tendons/ ligaments), along acu-channels and at specific acu-points. Rhythmic compression enhances Qi and Blood flow to ease muscle tension and lubricate the joints. Passive and active range of motion and traction techniques are also utilized.
Tui Na aids in the treatment of both acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, as well as many internal medical disorders. Tui Na is perhaps best suited for rectifying chronic pain, musculoskeletal conditions and stress-related disorders affecting the digestive or respiratory systems. Among the ailments Tui Na treats best are neck pain, shoulder pain, back pain, sciatica and tennis elbow. However, because Tui Na is designed to improve and restore the flow of Qi & Blood systemically, treatments often result in improvements to the Whole Person.
